Mozyhome no longer working5/1/2023 You’ll also be asked to fill out some information about yourself: name, gender, birth year, job category, etc. Registering for the (free) account is easy: Incidentally, MozyHome supports Windows 7, 2000, XP, and Vista (32 & 64 bit), as well as Mac OS X 10.6, 10.5, & 10.4 – good news for both Windows and Mac users. Let’s see how the process of setting up an account and using it works. What can you back up with 2 GB, you might ask? That’s 250,000 text emails. The second one is for business, and the price varies according to the number of desktops and servers you want to backup. The first one is offered to home users, and you can use it for free if you want to store just up to 2 GB of files, or you can pay $4.95 for one month of unlimited backup (the fee is lower if you opt for an annual or biennial subscription). There are two types of accounts you can choose from: MozyHome and MozyPro. “As we leverage the much, much more efficient Carbonite cloud infrastructure and effectively migrate the Mozy infrastructure onto our infrastructure, we expect to drive tremendous profitability and that’s something we’ve done before,” Ali said at the time.Mozy () is an online/cloud backup service for consumers and small businesses. He could not elaborate on roadmap specifics.Īli noted last year that Mozy was the first company he wanted to acquire when he started as CEO four years ago. Guadagno said this week that although the Mozy technology itself has not been integrated into the Carbonite data protection platform, Carbonite has identified many features and other innovations from Mozy and added them to the product roadmap. “Our integration plan is to similarly take the best of Mozy, and Mozy has some very interesting pieces of technology that can make that platform even stronger,” Ali said. It has been busy with acquisitions in recent years, including a blockbuster to buy Webroot cybersecurity for $618.5 million, which closed in March.Ĭarbonite has made several acquisitions in recent years.Ĭarbonite has been integrating technology from its acquisitions, CEO Mohamad Ali said on Carbonite’s earnings call last year around the time of the Mozy backup acquisition. “ are pleased with our upgrade pace,” he wrote.Ībout 70% of Mozy employees are now part of Carbonite, Guadagno said.īoston-based Carbonite has been building a data protection portfolio that includes backup, disaster recovery, high availability and migration tools. At the time of the acquisition, Mozy had about 100,000 consumer customers and 35,000 business subscribers.Ĭarbonite has upgraded about half of Mozy consumer customers to Carbonite’s infrastructure, according to Guadagno. The Mozy backup acquisition was largely a play to add customers. Carbonite continues evolutionīoth Carbonite and Mozy originally focused on selling to consumers and later shifted to a business focus, while still offering a consumer product. “Ultimately, everything that was once branded Mozy will be branded Carbonite.”Ĭarbonite expects most legacy Mozy customers to upgrade to Carbonite infrastructure. “Paying Mozy subscribers can continue to use Mozy to back up their endpoints and servers and Carbonite continues to offer an upgrade path to equivalent Carbonite offerings,” Guadagno wrote in an email.Ĭarbonite’s ongoing goal is to upgrade Mozy backup customers to the “more modern, powerful Carbonite Data Protection Platform,” Guadagno wrote. As a result of the acquisition, Mozy customers are technically Carbonite customers. Carbonite will also continue to support existing MozyEnterprise and MozyPro customers. The end of support for MozyHome Free does not affect paying MozyHome subscribers. Mozy backup included three major paid products: MozyEnterprise for enterprises, MozyPro for smaller businesses and MozyHome for consumers.

Sapience vs sentience5/1/2023 The concept of sentience is important because it provides a foundation for the animal welfare movement. Scientists have not yet conclusively determined whether spiders, other insects, and gastropods (e.g. shrimp, lobsters, crayfish, and crabs), indicate that they too are probably sentient. Studies of non-vertebrate animals, including octopus, squid, and cuttlefish, and decapod crustaceans (e.g. The agreed circle of sentience has expanded to include vertebrate animals (creatures with spines), and in particular parrots, dogs, pigs, cows, other farmed animals, and other companion animals. Even modern scientists have difficulty establishing with certainty which animals are sentient because humans cannot know definitively how another being (animal or human) is feeling. Rene Descartes is famous for propounding the view that animals are automata-incapable of feeling pain or suffering. Early philosophers thought only of humans as sentient. The sentience of humans is widely understood and accepted, while the sentience of other animal species is increasingly being recognized. According to Broom, a sentient being is able to “evaluate the actions of others in relation to itself and third parties, to remember some of its own actions and their consequences, to assess risks and benefits, to have some feelings, and to have some degree of awareness.” Broom, Emeritus Professor of Animal Welfare at Cambridge University, expands on Kirkwood and DeGrazia’s definition by detailing the abilities that a being must have to be considered sentient. James Kirkwood, veterinarian and former director of the Universities Federation for Animal Welfare, and David DeGrazia, Elton Professor of Philosophy at George Washington University, consider sentience as the capacity to have feelings. While sentience has no generally accepted definition, scholars agree on some common elements. Sentience is a subject of rich scientific literature. In dictionary definitions, sentience is defined as “ able to experience feelings,” “ responsive to or conscious of sense impressions,” and “ capable of feeling things through physical senses.” Sentient beings experience wanted emotions like happiness, joy, and gratitude, and unwanted emotions in the form of pain, suffering, and grief. The word sentient derives from the Latin verb sentire, which means “to feel.” The first letters, “sen,” match the beginnings of common English words including sentiment, sensory, and sensation-all of which give hints as to the meaning of the term. “Sentient” is an adjective that describes a capacity for feeling. While many people have some understanding of what is meant by sentience, its centrality to contemporary discussions about how humans treat animals warrants in-depth understanding. Even recently enacted legislation in many parts of the world acknowledges that animals are sentient. Mainstream reporting of scientific studies references sentience. Documentaries like Dominion and Earthlings highlight the sentience of animals by showing graphic video footage of animals appearing to experience pain and suffering. Animal advocates argue that animals should have rights because they are sentient. While there is nothing new about the word sentience, its public use seems to be increasing.

Geodist function sas5/1/2023 Naturally, these associations have prompted further investigation to determine if these factors also affect treatment response of DME with most finding no association. Prior studies have identified multiple other clinical factors, such as hemoglobin A1c, hypertension, serum creatinine, and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), as being closely associated with DME. Surprisingly, despite being reported as an independent risk factor for progression of diabetic retinopathy by the Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy Study group, anemia has rarely been evaluated as a factor in other progression studies and has yet to be assessed with regards to therapeutic impact. Despite the correlation between ischemia and VEGF levels being well established, it is less clear if other mediators of oxygen delivery, namely, anemia, can influence VEGF levels and subsequently, the need for DME treatment. Vitreous VEGF levels have been found to be highly correlated to the presence of DME, demonstrating a distinct gradient within the vitreous cavity, with pre-macular levels being the highest in DME patients. In addition, as health care delivery pushes towards population health using “shared risk” models that link reimbursement with outcomes, both efficiency and effectiveness is expected. With a reported prevalence of DME among diabetic patients in the US from 3%−10%, the ability to identify patients that may require more or less treatment is a critical issue. As recently as 2015, the three common intravitreal anti-VEGF agents used to treat DME have each individually accounted for over $1 billion in total United States (US) Medicare Part B expenditure. The success of intravitreal anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) therapy for diabetic macular edema (DME) comes with a high burden of care including the costs of frequent patient visits, repeated treatments, and increasing stress on the overall healthcare system and patient alike.

Megan mazaika5/1/2023 9Īlthough our understanding of the pathophysiology of PE has increased dramatically in the past 30 years, the precise mechanisms underlying this condition are still emerging. 2 According to the most recent definition endorsed by the International Society for the Study of Hypertension in Pregnancy, PE is defined as new-onset hypertension (systolic >140 mmHg and diastolic >90 mmHg) accompanied by one or more other features: proteinuria, other maternal organ dysfunction (including the liver, kidney, and nervous system), or hematological involvement, and/or uteroplacental dysfunction, such as fetal growth restriction and/or abnormal Doppler ultrasound findings of uteroplacental blood flow. PE is classically defined as new-onset hypertension and proteinuria developing in the second half of pregnancy and resolving after delivery, yet it is multiorgan HDP that can present with systemic manifestations ( e.g., elevated liver enzymes and low platelets) even before the development of proteinuria. New advancement in the pathogenesis of HDP We also review follow-up care models and recommend strategies for implementing these models into clinical practice. We also discuss opportunities for counseling, planning, and interventions to optimize treatments for underlying medical conditions associated with increased CV risk to improve pregnancy outcomes and long-term CV health. We explore how risk prediction using biomarkers could potentially facilitate stratification of antenatal care and testing of potential preventative and therapeutic interventions. We highlight advances in understanding the emergence of CV conditions during pregnancy and postpartum (specifically hypertensive disorders of pregnancy and peripartum cardiomyopathy ) and their association with CV risk over the life course. Thus, a critical life span perspective in assessment of women's CV risk factors is needed. Equally important and similarly understudied is the concept that women's long-term CV health could be detrimentally affected by adverse pregnancy outcomes (APOs), such as preeclampsia (PE), gestational hypertension, and diabetes, and preterm birth. 1 The question remains whether substantial physiological stress on the cardiovascular (CV) system during pregnancy-reflected in hemodynamic, hematological, and metabolic changes-uncovers subclinical prepregnancy CVD in otherwise healthy women. Causes of maternal mortality are multifaceted, and in the United States, cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the primary cause of pregnancy-related mortality. The maternal mortality rate is rising in the United States even as rates decrease globally. In this review article, we highlight new advancements in understanding adverse, pregnancy-related CV conditions and will discuss promising strategies or interventions for their prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. Thus, a critical life span perspective in the assessment of women's CV risk factors is needed to help women and health care providers recognize and appreciate not only optimal CV health but also risk factors present before, during, and after pregnancy. Equally important and similarly understudied is the concept that women's long-term CV health could be detrimentally affected by adverse pregnancy outcomes, such as preeclampsia, gestational hypertension, and diabetes, and preterm birth. The question remains whether substantial physiologic stress on the CV system during pregnancy reflected in hemodynamic, hematological, and metabolic changes uncovers subclinical prepregnancy CVD in these otherwise healthy women. Paradoxically, women with no preexisting chronic conditions or risk factors also experience significant pregnancy-related cardiovascular (CV) complications. Women who are African American or American Indian/Alaskan Native, have HDP, are medically underserved, are older, or are obese have a major risk for the onset and/or progression of CVD during and after pregnancy. Cardiovascular disease (CVD), including hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) and peripartum cardiomyopathy, is a leading cause of pregnancy-related death in the United States.

Why, it never took more than one lick they say. Why, my old grandpa was the best killer there was at the slaughterhouse. No suspects are in custody as the investigation at the scene continues. Area residents have reportedly been converging on the cemetery, fearing the remains of relatives have been removed. Sheriff Jesús Maldonado refused to give details in the ghoulish case, and said only that he did have evidence linking the crime to elements outside the state. Evidence indicates the robberies have occurred over a period of time. Deputies report that in some instances only parts of a corpse have been removed, the head or in some cases the extremities removed, the remainder of the corpse left intact. Subsequent investigation has revealed at least a dozen empty crypts, and it's feared more will turn up as the probe continues. A second body was found in a ditch near the perimeter of the cemetery. Officers there discovered what appeared to be a grisly work of art: the remains of a badly decomposed corpse wired to a large monument. An informant led officers of the Muerto County Sheriff's Department to a cemetery just outside the small rural Texas community of Newt early this morning.

Cataplexy vs catalepsy5/1/2023 Much of what we know about the relationship between orexin (hypocretin) and cataplexy comes from type 1 narcolepsy research. Orexin plays an important role in the sleep-wake cycle. While the cause of cataplexy is still being investigated, most people with cataplexy show a loss of certain brain cells that produce the hormone orexin (also called hypocretin). While type 1 and type 2 narcolepsy both have the name “narcolepsy” in it, the cause for type 1 narcolepsy is well understood (loss of a neurotransmitter, orexin), whereas the cause for type 2 narcolepsy is not well understood. For people with type 1 narcolepsy, episodes of cataplexy typically begin after the onset of excessive sleepiness. People diagnosed with type 1 narcolepsy experience episodes of cataplexy, while people with type 2 narcolepsy do not. There are two major types of narcolepsy: type 1 and type 2, differentiated by whether or not a person experiences cataplexy. Narcolepsy is a sleep disorder characterized by excessive daytime sleepiness, sleep paralysis, hallucinations, and, in some cases, cataplexy. Episodes typically last a couple of minutes and resolve on their own. Unlike other conditions that cause a loss of muscle control, like fainting or seizures, people experiencing cataplexy remain conscious and aware. During more severe episodes, a person collapses and cannot move or speak. Less severe episodes involve momentary sensations of weakness in a few muscles, while more severe episodes involve a total loss of voluntary muscle control. Episodes may also be triggered by anger, but rarely by stress, fear, or physical exertion.Įpisodes of cataplexy can vary in severity. The triggering experiences are usually positive, like laughter, witty conversations, and pleasant surprise. We will continue to monitor and revise this article as new literature is published on cataplexy.Ĭataplexy is a sudden muscle weakness that occurs while a person is awake. Our medical review team has recently evaluated this page to ensure accuracy.

The play will be Mo Donegal, just as it was for me when he was a troubled and rallying fifth in Louisville. You’re not going to see 5% of the 80-1 on Rich Strike this time, who will likely go shorter than 4-1. My intuition is that We The People’s double-digit-length romp in the Peter Pan on a wet track will be overbet, as will the sentiment for the filly Nest. Great horses win despite the race shape average ones need the help. Can Rich Strike kick home as effectively after using more of his energy to stay up close? That’s the kicker. Deep closers rarely win the Belmont despite its longer distance. Stylistically it will be up to jockey Sonny Leon to put Rich Strike closer to the pace than he was at Churchill Downs five weeks ago. Do we have a superstar or one-hit wonder in our midst? The answer comes against a field that includes Wood Memorial winner Mo Donegal, local Peter Pan runaway victor We The People and Kentucky Oaks runner-up Nest. In reality, it will be more of a test to see if 80-1 Kentucky Derby winner Rich Strike is more akin to the Beatles or Chumbawamba. The mile-and-a-half Test of the Champion at the Belmont Stakes on Saturday is all that awaits the Triple Crown season for 2022.

Undermine journal4/30/2023 Continuing to distribute the formulas primarily serves the needs of the breastmilk substitute companies rather than our patients.”Īnother physician disagrees, emphasizing, “The patients in this community appreciate and rely upon getting the infant formula. With that in mind, she raises a concern at the next department meeting: “Given the widely documented benefits of breastfeeding, I don’t think we should continue to distribute infant formula discharge bags. She saw it as a place where she could deliver good prenatal and postnatal care to a vulnerable and underserved patient population. To patients who are new mothers, B General Hospital has been distributing infant formula discharge bags for many years, and, from all accounts, this service is highly valued among community members and widely regarded as not only successful but essential.ĭr X is a family physician who just started at B General Hospital 9 months ago. While its patient population has changed substantially over the years to one that is more demographically diverse, the hospital is still relied upon to provide a full range of health care services despite the fact that it serves mostly patients who are poor, underinsured, or undocumented. Caseī General Hospital has been serving its community for more than 100 years. We recommend that hospitals evaluate the negative impacts of banning the bag on their patient population in order to ensure that families are not being negatively affected. Hospital policies to promote breastfeeding, including banning the bag, should be sensitive to the economic and other costs associated with breastfeeding and should be consciously designed to make breastfeeding easier and not just to make formula feeding more difficult. Eliminating formula giveaways (“banning the bag”) has been embraced as a way to reduce the influence of formula marketing in hospitals and to increase breastfeeding rates among new mothers, but the policy raises ethical concerns in the mind of some, notably because it denies a useful benefit to mothers who have trouble affording formula. |
